What our guests say

The location was excellent. We were in the countryside which we loved but also very close to Tekapo to take advantage of what was on offer in the town. The property was a working farm and the grandchildren were able to bottle feed the orphaned lambs which we all loved. Sadly we just ran out of time for several of our family to be taken on a farm tour.

We absolutely loved the cottage and would definitely want to stay there everytime we are down there. This stay made our holiday.

It’s really a quick drive to Tekapo but we enjoyed being out of town each evening. Would stay again.

Lovely warm homestead with everything provided right down to the fluffy warm sheets in the beds. Lovely to have a soak in the claw foot bath after a day of skiing.

Location is great only minutes from tekapo township. The house is as described, a cottage and it has all the charm of a farm cottage. Warm beds, fire and plenty of room for us all.

The homestead is in a fantastic location, only 10km from Lake Tekapo. It was lovely staying in a rural setting, very quiet, secluded and peaceful. The homestead has everything required for a fantastic get-away – warm and cozy, comfy beds and an amazing free standing bath to soak in after a long day of sight-seeing. I would highly recommend Old Sawdon Homestead to anyone wanting to spend some time in the high country.

My wife and I brought our 2 grand daughters to Tekapo to experience the beauty of the MacKenzie Country. Well, we found it in this stunning little cottage on the Sawdon Station so brilliantly set up by Sue. I mean all the towels we could ever use, bedding beautifully set up – and it was a cold 3 days so the fire and warm blankets were very much appreciated. When we weren’t away for walks or swims in the hot pools, we were walking on the station roads watching the rabbits, hawks and sheep going about their business. So, many thanks Sue for your cracker of a farm cottage. It was neat meeting your husband also.

This renovated 1924 house is delightful. Spacious, light and clean. Well stocked kitchen for cooking and eating. Plenty of room for our own food and belongings. Freezer packs and a freezer bag to use for picnics. We enjoyed a fire in the living room on three nights with the well stocked wood and kindling. The dark skies were fabulous for star viewing. It’s well located for touring in the area and close enough to town for grocery shopping. I’d happily stay there again. Sue is a friendly, welcoming hostess. Emails were promptly answered. A request for help with an unfamiliar heating system was responded to immediately with a smile. Fresh eggs were waiting. The house was immaculate. Her paperwork telling the history of the house, and her family, were so interesting and made our stay even more of a treasure.

The location is stunning – quiet farm setting and views to the mountains. The house is old (as advertised) but everything functions well and it was toasty warm when we got the fire going one freezing morning.

Pure peace away from the buzz of the Lake Tekapo township with outlooks across farmland to snow capped mountains. Cute little retro cottage with a fireplace which kept us toasty. Had everything we needed and was very clean and tidy. Loved the walk up to the Ridgeline close to the cottage, amazing. Definitely returning next year to this little gem.
